It has been a weekend washout for Hassocks as all of the Robins’ scheduled matches have been postponed due to rain.
Today’s visit of Alfold to the Beacon was called off this morning by the matchday referee following an inspection after terrible overnight weather. As a result, tomorrow’s Under 18s fixture against Horsham YMCA is also off.
On Thursday night, the Under 23s had been due to travel to Alfold Recreation Ground but that too fell foul of the weather, meaning that the Robins’ last pre-Christmas action has taken place.
Perhaps the postponement of the Alfold game should not come as a real surprise. It is a fixture which mother nature seems to hate with this being the second time this season and the seventh time in the past two campaigns that the game has been called off.
In 2019-20, five times times Hassocks versus Alfold games were scheduled and five times they were postponed; four at the Recreation Ground including one with just 10 minutes to go before kick off and one here with a mixture of wet weather, cold weather and Covid-19 to blame.
Hassocks and Fold finally met for the first time in senior football on the opening day of the current campaign in Alfold, with the hosts running out 3-1 winner. The return match at the Beacon which was originally arranged for the end of October was then lost to wet weather with this latest attempt now following suit.
No new date has been set for a third attempt to get the game played yet. Hassocks are next in action away at Premier Division leaders Saltdean United on Boxing Day with an 11am kick off at Hill Park. That is followed 48 hours later by the visit of East Preston to the Beacon on Monday 28th December, which again is an 11am kick off.
