Oakwood and Shoreham pre-season friendlies cancelled

Beacon pitch being given time to recover after remedial work

Hassocks have had to cancel their pre-season friendlies against Oakwood and Shoreham due to problems caused by heavy recent rain to the Beacon pitch.

Remedial work was carried out following Tuesday night’s Ann John Trophy game against Burgess Hill Town to try and aid drainage in a specific area following the new drainage system installed in the Spring.

Unfortunately, that has left the area in question unplayable for the next two home friendlies. The club remain hopeful that after a suitable period of rest, the game against Rustington on Saturday 17th July can go ahead.

Kick off against the Blues will be at 3pm and entrance is via a pay-what-you-like donation. Should the pitch have not recovered still in time, then we will communicate the situation via social media and the website.

Oakwood had been due to visit in the Robins’ second pre-season friendly on Saturday 10th July, followed by Shoreham on Tuesday 13th July.

Following the Rustington game, Hassocks are due to host Haywards Heath Town on Tuesday 20th followed by one final pre-season friendly against Sutton Common Rovers on Saturday 24th.

The Southern Combination League Premier Division season gets underway a week later. Broadbridge Heath will provide the opposition at the Beacon at 3pm on Saturday 31st July with the Robins’ first away game of the season taking place three days later at Saltdean United.

On Saturday 7th August, Spelthorne Sports will visit Mid Sussex in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round at 3pm. Further Premier Division fixtures are due to be announced after Wednesday, once the Isthmian League confirms their schedule for the season.
