Hassocks have been drawn against Crawley Down Gatwick in the second round of the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup.
With both sides already eliminated from the FA Cup at the Extra Preliminary Qualifying Round stage, the tie will take place on Saturday 25th August at the Beacon. Kick off will be at 3pm.
That sets up a busy Bank Holiday weekend for the Robins. They are also set to host Saltdean United on Monday 27th at 11am, although that game will be rearranged if the Tigers require a replay for their Preliminary Round meeting with Whyteleafe.
Hassocks and Crawley Down have met three times in the RUR Cup before. The most recent of those came in the last eight two seasons ago. Down ran out 3-0 winners on that occasion on their way to the final, where they ended up being well beaten by Newhaven.
The Robins have won the previous two ties against the Anvils, both becoming when Down were a division lower than Hassocks. A Matt Amos hat-trick paved the way for a clinical 4-0 win for Dave John’s side in the second round in 2007. Anthony Hibbert was also on target that day at the Haven.
The first ever meeting at senior level between the two came again in second round, this time in the 2005-06 season and again Hibbert was the man on target, his goal nine minutes before the end proving to be enough to prevent a second game at the Beacon in the days when the competition featured replays.
