Hassocks face Villa for the first time in RUR Charity Cup
The Beacon will host two midweek matches in November with Montpelier Villa confirmed as Hassocks’ Sussex Prinicpal RUR Charity Cup opponents and a date now set for the rearranged Pagham game.
Villa will visit in the second round of the competition on Tuesday 9th November, kick off at 7:45pm. They were convincing 4-0 winners against fellow Southern Combination League Division One outfit Forest Row in round one thanks to two goals from Chris Grant and one apiece from Joseph Radley-Martin and Joshua Rondel.
This will be the first ever meeting in senior football between Hassocks and Villa, newcomers to Division One for the current campaign.
They have taken to life at their new level well, sitting in seventh spot in the table with six wins, three draws and five defeats to their name.
A week later and the Robins welcome Pagham to the Beacon in Premier Division action on Tuesday 16th November. The Lions had been due to visit on Saturday, only for the monsoon which hit Mid Sussex overnight to lead the matchday referee to postpone the game.
Pagham will provide a real stern test for Hassocks. They are eight points behind leaders Littlehampton Town but have two games in hand. Win those and the Lions will be right in the thick of the title race.
The two new fixtures will mean Hassocks face three home games in the space of seven days. Sandwiched in-between come Alfold on Saturday 13th November.
Alfold have never visited the Beacon before, although that is not for the want of trying. Four times since Alfold won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2019-20 season this game has been postponed as a result of weather and lockdowns.
Hassocks have managed to visit Alfold Recreation Ground once in that time, although that fixture too has suffered its fair share of cancellations. Fold ran out 3-1 winners on the opening day of the 2020-21 campaign on the one occasion the sides have met.
Admission for all matches at the Beacon is £6 adults, £3 concessions with under 16s going free.
