Free scoring Tye averaging five goals a game in November
Peacehaven & Telscombe have played six games so far in November, scoring 30 goals at an average of five a game. To say that the Tye will arrive at the Beacon in good form would be a slight understatement.
There may still be four weeks to go until Christmas, but the visit of Peacehaven represents Hassocks’ penultimate home game before Santa readies his sleigh and everyone is stuffing themselves with turkey (presuming you can get your hands on one).
Not only do the Robins take to the road after this weekend, but the fixture list also has a very tough look to it. Following free scoring Peacehaven are trips to AFC Uckfield Town and Eastbourne Town.
Premier Division leaders Saltdean United then visit the Beacon before a holiday outing on December 27th to Crawley Down Gatwick.
Hassocks though can at least look to recent results for inspiration. Saturdays 0-0 draw at Broadbridge Heath was a magnificent battling performance against a side who started the day fifth in the table.
The Robins might have had a point from Pagham were it not for an inspired display of goalkeeping from Lions number one Lewis Broughton and Alfold were beaten 2-1 in dramatic circumstances last time the Robins played at the Beacon a fortnight ago.
If Hassocks can continue their recent improvement, then they may yet add Peacehaven to the list of opponents who they have secured a surprise result against this autumn.
Peacehaven & Telscombe this season
It has been a bit of a strange season for the Tye so far, featuring two winning streaks of the sort you expect from title contenders and a losing run of the sort that teams who struggle go on.
When Hassocks went to the Sports Park in August, a 3-2 win for Peacehaven sent them joint top alongside local rivals Saltdean.
After they suffered defeat against the Tigers over the Bank Holiday Weekend, they then embarked on a 10 match winless run, toppling from title contention into lower mid table as well as exiting the FA Cup, the FA Vase and Peter Bentley League Cup in the space of a September week.
The ship though has since been well and truly steadied, as those November results so far are testament to; a 10-0 win over Loxwood, a 6-0 success at East Preston and a 9-0 victory against Oakwood in midweek contributing hugely to that ridiculous running goals total for the month.
What these sequences of results tell us is that the Tye can be a quality side on their day – meaning that Hassocks’ chances of getting something could hinge on which Peacehaven turn up.
Hassocks v Peacehaven & Telscombe head-to-head
Any home fans looking for some positive signs from past meetings will find themselves barking up the wrong tree as Hassocks’ record against Peacehaven is spectacularly bad. The Tye have won 21 of the 35 meetings, with eight wins for the Robins and seven draws.
Hassocks can at least take solace from the fact that this game is at the Beacon – trips to the Sports Park have been even more harrowing.
The Robins have just one league win to their name down on the south coast in 12 attempts, coming under Mickey Jewell in the 2011-12 season when Hassocks went onto claim their highest ever Premier Division finish of fourth.
Last time Hassocks played Peacehaven & Telscombe
As already mentioned, the Robins’ August trip to the Sports Park came when Peacehaven were flying high towards the top of the table whilst Hassocks were still awaiting their first win of the season.
Despite the discrepancy in form, the Robins gave a decent account of themselves in going down to a close-fought 3-2 defeat.
Max Holloborne, Jordan Pryor and Tyler Scrafton scored for the Tye with the Hassocks consolations coming from Andy Whittingham and a first senior goal from Connor Bradley.
