Both Hassocks Under 18s and Hassocks Ladies kick off their competitive league seasons tomorrow with huge games for differing reasons.
The Young Robins will look to become the first Hassocks side to ever successfully defend the Southern Combination Youth League title when they travel to local rivals St Francis Rangers for a Mid Sussex Derby to kickstart the season.
It will be Brad Sweetman’s first competitive game in charge after stepping up from assistant manager to replace Dave John who stepped down at the end of the previous season’s treble winning campaign.
This is Rangers’ first season back in the league having not entered a youth side in 2017-18, with the last meetings between the two both going the way of Hassocks in the 2016-17 season.
There was a 3-0 victory at the Beacon through goals from Matt Denyer, Danny Austin and an own
goal and a 7-2 win at Colwell Road in the return fixture.
Kick off at the Hospital is at 11am for anybody who would like to go and cast an eye over the newest generation of Robins.
The ladies meanwhile will be looking to do what the men failed at by progressing in the FA Cup. Martin Lee’s side will take on Islington Borough at the Beacon with kick off in that one set for 2pm.
Islington set up the meeting thanks to a 4-0 victory over the Robins’ South East Counties League Division One West rivals Oakwood in the Preliminary Round two weeks ago.
