It was a mixed Sunday for Hassocks as the under 18s started their season with victory but the ladies bowed out of the FA Cup.
The Young Robins began their title defence with a convincing 4-1 win away at local rivals St Francis Rangers in Brad Sweetman’s first game in charge.
It’s been a summer of rebuilding with the vast majority of last season’s treble winning side now too old to qualify for under 18 football.
That meant that Sweetman took a squad of 16 players to Colwell Road who were all making their debuts for Hassocks, making the result even more impressive.
Hassocks were 3-0 up before the break through Henry Le May, Alfie Loverigde and Yahya Azizi.
Azizi added his second and the Robins fourth just before the hour mark with Omar-Jermain Ashby scoring a late consolation for Rangers to deny Harry Meredith a clean sheet.
The Ladies saw their FA Cup adventure come to an end after a 4-2 home defeat to Islington Borough in the First Qualifying Round at the Beacon.
