Top five clash as Hassocks host Peacehaven & Telscombe
Fifth hosts fourth at the Beacon as Hassocks kick off a tricky run of November fixtures against Peacehaven & Telscombe.
The Robins will face four of the top six in their next five matches. Only one of those takes place at home with trips to Crowborough Athletic, Eastbourne Town and Steyning Town to come following the Tye’s visit to Mid Sussex.
Hassocks have held two other promotion candidates in their past two matches, drawing 1-1 at Newhaven last weekend before their Peter Bentley League Cup third round tie with Haywards Heath Town finished 2-2 in midweek.
The Bluebells progressed on penalties at the end of a ridiculously entertaining 90 minutes. More of the same against Peacehaven and it will be a cracking afternoon of football.
Peacehaven & Telscombe this season
Peacehaven garnered a reputation as cup specialists in 2022-23. They embarked on a memorable run to the last eight of the FA Vase, drawing a crowd of 1,253 to the Window Workshop Sports Park for a cruel penalty shootout exit to Corsham Town.
They then reached the semi finals of the Peter Bentley League Cup and lifted the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup, beating Southern Combination League champions Broadbridge Heath 1-0 in the final through a late Max Hollobone goal.
The challenge for Mark Shutt and his players coming into the new campaign was to take their knockout form and apply it consistently over a Premier Division season.
So far, so good in that regard – the Tye will arrive in Mid Sussex nicely placed in fourth spot with nine wins, two draws and three defeats to their name from 14 matches.
Hassocks v Peacehaven & Telscombe head-to-head
It is not a fixture which has brought Hassocks much joy through the years. Peacehaven have won 22 of the 41 meetings with 10 draws and just eight victories for the Robins.
Any Hassocks fans looking for crumbs of comfort can hold onto the fact this game takes place at the Beacon.
The Robins have won just once in 13 league matches at the Window Workshop Sports Park and that was over a decade ago now.
Last time Hassocks played Peacehaven & Telscombe
The last meeting between the sides came at the Sports Park back in May in the quarter finals of the RUR Cup.
The Tye ran out 2-1 winners on their way to lifting the trophy thanks to a 90th minute strike from Billy Oliver. Cam Wilstshire had given the hosts a ninth minute lead cancelled out by Liam Benson five minutes later.
