Hassocks Squad 2016-17 Season

James Broadbent – Goalkeeper
Ex-Eastbourne Town, Eastbourne United and AFC Uckfield number one who signed a month into the current campaign. Despite misgivings about the pink goalkeeper kit, saved a penalty on his debut and ended up winning a clean sweep of Player’s Player, Manager’s Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards. | Read more

Alex Harris – Goalkeeper
In his second spell with the Robins having re-joined from Metropolitan Police just before Christmas last season. Kept a number of clean sheets in the second half of the 2015-16 campaign which helped Hassocks pull clear of the relegation zone, whilst getting into some spectacular arguments with spectators along the way. | Read more

Defenders >>>

Luke Akehurst
Defender who is capable of playing anywhere across the back line, Luke eventually made the left back slot his own in 2015-16 after arriving from St Francis Rangers for his third spell with the Robins. He loves to get forward which can lead to panic not only in the ranks of the opposition but more often that not from his own team mates as well.

Bradley Tighe
Right back Brad is a youth team product who made his debut at 17-years-old in the 2014-15 season, since when he has become a first team regular. He possesses a wicked delivery both from set pieces and open play and is another defender who loves to get forward. He was named Players’ Player of the Year last season.

Harry Mills
A summer signing from Hailsham Town, Harry arrived as a right back but has also been used in a central midfield role to good effect. A tenacious player, his first goal for the club resulted in the worst celebration in Hassocks history with what could only be described as a terrible forward roll. Has an interesting choice in belts.

Ashley Marsh
One of the most popular figures ever to play for Hassocks, Marshy is club and captain and first name on the team sheet in defence. Now in his 13th season as a regular, in December he became just the third player to make over 500 appearances for the club. That could easily have been 600 had he not missed 100 games through suspension.

Jordan Badger
Centre back Jordan is a new arrival at the Beacon this season having signed from Lewes. He came through the ranks at the Dripping Pan but with first team opportunities limited made the move to the Robins. A colossus in the air, he offers a real threat from set pieces going forward and has added a touch of class to the defence.

Tom Barnes
Former Under 18s captain Barnesy has become a regular since re-joining Hassocks from Haywards Heath Town in January 2015. Nobody believes that he actually used to be a box-to-box midfielder given that he has the turning circle of the QE2. This lack of pace hasn’t stopped him becoming one of the Robins’ most dependable defenders.

Nick Pitcher
A member of the treble winning Reserves side of 2012-13, Nick stepped up to the first team the following season and has since gone onto play 100 times for the club. Comfortable in either defence or midfield, a video of him producing a horror tackle to kick an opponent in the face complete with WWE commentary went viral last season.
